The Office of Consumer Support in the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight is pleased to announce a new, clickable Consumer Assistance web “badge” that connects consumers to specialists and resources who can address their health insurance problems and questions.
Put this badge on your organization’s website, and consumers can click on it to connect to an interactive map on the Consumer Assistance Program (CAP) webpage on the federal government’s cutting edge consumer healthcare website, HealthCare.gov. Consumers select their state and get web-links and contact information for the CAP in their state.
The CAPs’ trained caseworkers can help consumers find and enroll in a health plan that meets their needs and to appeal when their insurer denies a claim for covered benefits. The program can also help people understand their legal rights and options when they’re losing health insurance.
Residents of states that didn’t apply for a CAP grant will find a customized list of contact information for state and federal government health coverage programs, that may be able to provide assistance.
The 2010 Affordable Care Act provides grants to states to set up or expand these Consumer Assistance Programs, to help consumers navigate the confusing currents of today’s health insurance market.
