NP Listed as Separate Enity in Federal Gov't Standard Occupational Classification

The Office of Management and Budget announced its final 2010 Standard Occupational Classification rulemaking. This action is the response to nurse practitioners petitions to list NPs in a separate classification from other registered nurses in the Standard Occupational Classification. Nurse practitioners, Nurse Midwives and Nurse Anesthetists each have their own classification and are no longer combined with registered nurses in general. This is major step forward in recognizing and accounting for advanced practice nursing activities in the larger government and health care arena (our number is 29-1171).
