What are the various membership categories?
Full Member - A registered nurse who has successfully completed $115
an NP program and/or maintains certification as an NP with a nationally
approved certifying body. Full members shall have the right to vote in
national and state elections. Full members desiring to seek state or
national office must have been an AANP member in good standing for
the previous 12 months.
Associate Member - A person who is not an NP but who is $115
interested in fostering the objectives of AANP and the NP
profession qualifies as an Associate Member. Associate Members
do not have the right to vote or hold office.
Retired Member - A nurse practitioner who has retired from NP practice. $55
Retired members shall have the right to vote in state elections. Retired
members may hold office at the state level after being an AANP member
in good standing for the previous 12 months.
Group Member - An organized group of nurse practitioners or organized
group that has NPs as a component. Click here for information about
Group membership.
Student Member -
A student currently enrolled in an entry-level program $55
that prepares NPs. Student Members shall have the right to vote in state
elections and seek office at the state level. Student members desiring to
seek office at the state level must have been an AANP student member in
good standing for the previous 12 months.
Recognized NP - Student Member - A nurse practitioner who has $85
returned to school for further education qualifies as a Recognized NP –
Student Member. Recognized NP - Student members wishing to seek
either state or national office must be an AANP member in good standing
for the previous 12 months. If desiring to run for national office, Recognized
NP – Student members must convert to Full member status.

How long is my membership good?
Memberships are for one calendar year from the date of activation/renewal and can be renewed annually.
How do I renew my membership?
You can renew your membership by any of the following methods: Online via our website by either clicking on Online Services, downloading an application via our website and mailing or faxing it to us, or calling the Membership Department.
What methods are acceptable for payment of a membership?
AANP can accept personal and business checks, money orders, and Visa, MasterCard, and American Express credit cards.
How long will it be before my membership application is processed once it is received?
Most membership applications are processed within two business days of receipt. If you include an email address with your application, a confirmation will be emailed when your application has been processed.
As a new member, when will I receive my member number and other AANP information?

New membership packets, which include a membership card, membership certificate
and other membership information, are mailed out every two weeks.

If you join online you will be able to print out a receipt, which shows
your new membership number.

When I renew my membership, when will I receive a new membership card?
Renewal membership cards are mailed out every two weeks.
How can I receive a new membership card if I lost my old one/my name has changed?
You can request a new card by contacting AANP Membership. You can request a card via email, fax, mail or phone. We will need your full name and current mailing address.
How do I update my name?
In response to the rise in identity theft we have increased our security and will need official proof of your name change, either by a copy of a marriage license, copy of a divorce decree or other official memorandum. This information can be faxed to the Membership Services Department at 512-442-6469 or mailed to our Administration address.
How do I update my mailing information?
You can update your mailing information by logging into your record via Online Services at www.aanp.org. You can also update your mailing information by contacting AANP Membership via mail, phone, fax, or email.
What groups are current members of AANP?
A list of current group members can be found on our website by clicking on AANP/Membership, then Group Members, then searching the Group Member Directory.
How do I know if I qualify for a $10 discount on a Full membership?
You qualify for the $10 discount on a Full membership by checking the current group member list on our website. If you are a member of any of those groups, you are eligible for the $10 discount.
What is my membership number?
Your membership number is a seven-digit number that is used to identify your member record. Please note that your member number is separate from any AANP Certification Number that you may have. An AANP Certification Number is a seven-digit number prefaced by an A, F, or G (for Adult, Family or Gerontological).
How can I obtain a copy of a receipt for my membership?
You can request a copy of a receipt of membership by contacting AANP Membership. You can request a receipt via email, fax, mail or phone. We will need your full name and current mailing address. The receipt can be sent via email, fax or mail.
Is any portion of my membership dues tax deductible?
AANP estimates that the portion of your dues that is deductible is 90%.
Student Membership
How often do I need to send proof of student status?
Proof of student status is required whenever a student membership is activated or renewed. Student status proof must be received with application or if applying online, within five (5) business days in order to maintain your membership at student member rates.
What type of proof of student status is required?
To qualify for Student or Recongized NP - Student membership, you must submit proof of student status for the current academic semester. Many university registrar’s offices have student verification forms available online for student use. AANP can also accept an official or unofficial transcript, a copy of your schedule or tuition bill or a letter from your registrar or program director. Proof must contain your full name and verification that you are a student for the current academic semester.
