Reviewer Information

The JAANP Volunteer Reviewer Pool is composed of Advanced Practice Nurses and other healthcare professionals who are clinicians and academics from many geographical areas and specialties. We are always seeking qualified new reviewers to participate in the process of providing a cutting edge professional journal for nurse practitioners around the world. If you are interested in becoming a reviewer for JAANP you can register on-line through the Manuscript Central (MC) system (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jaanp) and create a dual role author/reviewer account. You do not have to be an author to become a reviewer, but creating your profile in MC produces an author center and a reviewer center in your name.

JAANP peer reviewers are uncompensated volunteers who are interested in participating in the advancement of nursing science. Those who complete reviews are listed on this website at the end of each year as a token of our appreciation. (A PDF copy of the most recent Reviewer Credits can be found here via the link at the bottom of this page.)

The JAANP uses a double blind peer-review review process (neither the reviewer nor the author ever know each other's identities). Multiple reviewers are assigned to each manuscript based on the reviewers' expertise and availability. The entire process is computerized and done by email, which helps minimize mailing expenses for the reviewers and shortens time for the review process.

A typical review will take about 1-2 hours depending on the type of manuscript and the reviewer's familiarity with the content. Our reviewers are expected act as "content experts" and not editors; we don't expect you to rewrite a manuscript. An on-line publication, Guidebook for Manuscript Reviewers, written by the editor is available free on the Nurse Author & Editor website (http://www.nurseauthoreditor.com/) under the Tab “For Reviewers.” To obtain access you must log-in with your name and email address.

We assign manuscripts for review according to our needs and our reviewers’ areas of expertise and workload. This means that the frequency of our requests for an individual reviewer's services will be determined by the content of the articles submitted to the JAANP for publication. One or two reviews per year is a typical workload for our reviewers.

We understand that our reviewers are busy people, so  we always query a reviewer by email as to their availability and interest before sending the link to the actual article for review. We ask that reviews be accomplished within 30 days; however, we can extend that time when necessary. Reminder e-mails are automatically sent out at specific intervals during the review process.
