About Us

The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Foundation (AANP Foundation) was conceived and created by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) to help meet the need for funding for NP-related education, as well as healthcare focused research and projects. The AANP Foundation began operations in March 1998 as an independently incorporated 501(c)(3) philanthropic, nonprofit organization. The AANP Foundation is proud to be the first national foundation of its kind working to benefit nurse practitioners of all specialties. Many AANP Foundation programs are exclusive AANP member benefits.

The mission of the AANP Foundation is to advance the role of nurse practitioners through the support of education, research, and practice for the improvement of the public’s health.  We envision quality healthcare for everyone.

Primary goals are to:

- Award scholarships for NP preparation/education

- Award grants for research/projects relevant to healthcare administered by NPs

for the improvement of the public's health

- Support endeavors that advance the knowledge & preparation of NPs through

continuing education, advanced training & special programs

- Support and promote humanitarian/intercultural/international opportunities

  between NPs & others

The AANP Foundation’s largest program is the AANP Foundation Scholarship & Grant Program. An exclusive AANP member benefit, this important program provides scholarships (for Doctoral, Post-MS NP, and MSN-NP education) and research/project grants (for practicing NPs and student NPs). The AANP Foundation Scholarship & Grant Program was initiated in 1998, making its first awards in December 1998. 1998 had one funding cycle. 1999-2008 had two funding cycles. Scholarship and grant offerings vary from funding cycle to funding cycle.

In 2006, the Academy Corporate Advisory Council (ACAC) was restructured to form the Nurse Practitioner Corporate Partner Council (NPCPC) and was moved to be housed under the AANP Foundation to better meet the needs of AANP and AANP Foundation corporate partners. In 2010 the name was changed to Corporate Council.

The AANP Foundation … supporting nurse practitioner excellence since 1998!
