Q: How strict is the GPA requirement?

A: Very--The application review and award is competitive. Please see the GPA requirement for each individual offering. The GPA requirement listed is the minimum GPA accepted for eligibility. GPA cannot be rounded up to reach the minimum requirement. The GPA requirement is for your current NP-related education program, do not use GPAs from previous programs and/or degrees. GPAs earned for courses taken in previous programs will only be accepted with documentation if particular course(s) from a previous program are being accepted by your current program for the completion of your current program.

Q: Am I able to apply if it is my first semester in my program?
A: Eligibility is not based on how many semesters completed but on a minimum number of courses completed.

For Doctoral Students: Applicants must have completed at least one course of their doctoral education program at time of application submission.

For Post-MS NP Students: Applicants must have completed at least one course of their current Post-MS NP educational program at time of application submission.

For MSN-NP Students: Applicants must have completed at least one course of their MSN-NP educational program at the time of application submission.

For Bridge Program / Direct Entry Students: Applicants enrolled in BSN-MSN bridge or direct entry programs must have completed all BSN-RN related courses and have completed at least one course of their MSN-NP educational program at time of application submission.

Q: Because I have not completed a course in my program, I do not qualify. Can I be placed on an e-mail list to receive notification of your next award cycle?
A: Yes, please e-mail foundation@aanp.org and ask to be placed on the offering announcement e-mail list. We do not share your information with any third party organizations or individuals.

Q: Where can I get application materials?
A: The October 16, 2009 deadline to acquire applications materials for the 2009 Funding Cycle has now passed. Application materials are no longer available. The application submission deadline for the 2009 Funding Cycle is October 21, 2009. We regret that we are unable to offer deadline extensions.

If you would like us to notify you of our next funding cycle, please e-mail foundation@aanp.org and ask to be placed on the offering announcement e-mail list. We do not share your information with any third party organizations or individuals.

Q: To qualify for scholarships and grants I must be a member of AANP. How do I apply for AANP membership?
A: As outlined on page 2 of the scholarship and grant application materials, AANP membership information and application materials can be printed off the AANP website and should be mailed in with your scholarship application. AANP membership applications received with scholarship and grant application materials will be forwarded to the AANP by the AANP Foundation. The direct link to membership information is http://www.aanp.org/AANPCMS2/MemberCenter/.

Q: Who receives the award money?
A: Award money is paid directly to the individual award winner. If you are awarded an NP student scholarship, the award check will be made out to your name, not your university.

Q: Who is responsible for taxes on award money?
A: The individual recipient is responsible for tax implications of the award.

Q: Can I pay student loans with award money?
A: The AANP Foundation Scholarship & Grant Program is not a tuition reimbursement program. Scholarship and student grant applicants must be currently enrolled in and currently working on their NP-related education.

Q: How do you want the packet organized in regards to the duplicate copies (e.g. the checklists, profile, supporting rationale and professional goal statements, etc.)?
A: We would appreciate two separate sets organized as outlined in the application materials.

Q: I graduate in May of 2010, do I qualify for the scholarships?
A: 2009 Funding Cycle requirements state that you must not complete your program before April 1, 2010.

Q: Do you offer undergraduate scholarships?
A: We do not offer undergraduate scholarships. You must have completed at least one course of your graduate degree to qualify.

Q: Must I be a citizen of the United States of America to qualify for scholarships and grants?
A: At this time, AANP Foundation Scholarship & Grant Program offerings are limited to US citizens.

Q: Are the NP Scholarship and Grant Offerings open to Midwifery students?
A: AANP Foundation Scholarship & Grant Program offerings are available exclusively to nurse practitioners – students and practicing NPs. If you are enrolled in a dual program, for example a Women’s Health NP / Nurse Midwife Program, you would be eligible to apply if you meet the eligibility requirements as they relate to the NP portion of your program. Completion of midwifery-related courses cannot count towards GPA and course completion requirements. The above is also true if you are enrolled in other dual programs, for example – dual NP/PA program, dual NP/CNS program, etc.
