AANPNR

iStock 000009199040XSmall The first and only NP-specific practice-based research network (PBRN), the AANP Network for Research was formed in 2002 to encourage and facilitate creative, investigator-initiated research to increase understanding of outcomes of primary care practice.

AANPNR's objectives

  • Conduct practice-based research relevant to NPs and their patients
  • Facilitate translation of research to practice
  • Improve the practice of primary care by NPs
  • Improve the health of primary care patients

AANPNR's membership features primary care providers, who, along with their patients, provide a great potential resource for future studies.

AANPNR is directed by Michelle L. Cook, AANP's Associate Vice President of Research. AANPNR is solely funded by the AANP.

Upcoming AANPNR Projects

Among AANPNR's next endeavors is to conduct the Direct Observation of NP Care (DONPC) study to describe and characterize patient care delivered by NPs in the primary care setting. The DONPC will be conducted in collaboration with the Advanced Practice Nurse-Ambulatory Research Consortium in Ohio. The primary investigator, Dr. Sharon Weyer, will collaborate with AANPNR staff to conduct this national study, which will include direct observations of at least 20 NP practices, drawn from AANPNR membership. We are excited about this opportunity to develop a description of NP-patient encounters.

The AANPNR needs you. Join us!

In addition to participation in network-sponsored projects, membership in AANPNR provides opportunities for members with like interests and practices to develop collaborative projects with network support.

All AANP members are eligible to join AANPNR and participate in its projects. Whether you're interested in participating in quick surveys or more involved studies, the amount of involvement is totally up to you.

With your membership, we can continue NP-initiated research that is of primary importance to NPs and their patients. Join us today!
