About the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB)

Are AANP and AANPCB the same organization?

AANP and AANPCB are separate organizations, which requires all account information and payments to be handled separately.

  • AANP is your national NP membership association.
  • AANPCB provides certification, re-certification and verification of certification. For questions about your certification, please visit aanpcert.org, email certification@aanpcert.org or call or text 512-637-0500.

If I certify with AANPCB, do I automatically become a member AANP?

No. AANP and AANPCB are separate organizations with different purposes. AANP is a professional membership association and AANPCB is a certification body.

How do I receive the $75 AANP member discount for certification or re-certification with AANPCB?

To claim this benefit, do the following:

  • Ensure that your name on your AANP membership account is an exact match for how it is listed on your AANPCB certification account.
  • Enter in your AANP account number in the section listed as “Membership Number” on the certification application. The $75 discount will be applied automatically.

Membership, Auto-Renewal and Communities

What types of memberships are offered and how much does it cost?

AANP offers six different membership categories. Membership dues are based on category qualification at the time of activation or renewal. Dues range from $55 to $160. All membership dues are non-refundable.

  • Nurse Practitioner – NP with current certification.
  • Student – Student currently enrolled in an entry-level NP program.
  • Licensed NP Student – Certified NP currently enrolled in an advanced NP program.
  • Career Starter – Newly-graduated NP who is in the first year of their practice – limited one-year term.
  • Retired – NP who has retired from practice or other professional NP employment.
  • Associate – Non-NP who supports the mission of AANP and the NP profession.

How long does an AANP membership last?

AANP memberships are valid for 12 months from the date you join or renewal date.

Can I renew my AANP membership early?

If you renew prior to the expiration date listed on your MyAccount page, the membership term (month and day) will remain the same, but the year will be extended. (For example, if you joined AANP on January 25, 2023, your membership is valid for a total of 12 months and would expire on Jan. 24, 2024. If you renewed early on Dec. 15, 2023, your membership would be extended to Jan. 24, 2025).

What are AANP Communities?

AANP Communities are interactive online groups designed to support discussion, document sharing, collaboration and networking between NPs. AANP Communities are optional and are currently priced at $20 each.

The community participation start date and end date will align with your AANP membership. Auto-renewal is available for communities. Discover AANP Communities.

What is auto-renewal?

Auto-renewal is a convenient way to ensure your AANP membership never lapses. Members provide credit or debit card information securely on their MyAccount page. They may opt-in to auto-renewal as they join or renew their membership. Auto-renewal is available for the NP, Retired and Associate categories of membership. Save 5% on membership dues by opting-in to auto-renewal. Please review AANP Recurring Payment Authorization Terms.

How can l update the payment information for my auto-renewal?

To update your credit or debit card information online, please follow the steps below:

  • Log in to your membership account.
  • Select the “Billed to ****0000” hyperlink that appears below your scheduled renewal date.
  • Enter the new credit or debit card information and select “Update.”

How do I remove auto-renewal from my account?

Any changes other than updating your payment information must be completed by an AANP Member Care Representative. Please contact us via email at membership@aanp.org or by phone at 512-505-0242.

How do I renew my membership?

How long will it take to process my membership application?

Online applications are processed immediately upon payment submission. Please allow time for delivery of applications sent by postal mail. Once your application is processed, you will receive a confirmation email and a copy of your receipt for the transaction.

What is MyAccount?

MyAccount is a webpage where members manage their AANP membership information. From your MyAccount page you can print receipts for dues or conferences, update your profile and contact information, print your membership card or membership certificate and sign up for AANPCB data sharing.

As an AANP member, do I get a printed copy of the journal?

AANP members have unlimited online access to two AANP journals. Members receive an email of the table of contents for each new issue.

  • Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (JAANP) – Provides you with timely, peer-reviewed articles addressing clinical practice and management, health policy, research, education and other issues affecting NPs.
  • The Journal for Nurse Practitioners (JNP) - Helps you stay current with clinical and policy concerns affecting your day-to-day practice.

To access the journals, log in to your membership account using your email address and password. The journals are available online.

What NP Organizations (NPOs) are current members of AANP?

Does AANP have a preceptor list?

AANP does not have a preceptor list. However, AANP offers NPFinder and the NPO directory as easy tools to help you locate NPs in your area. View the AANP checklists for faculty and preceptors.

Continuing Education (CE) Credit

How do I claim my CE credit for conferences?

Conference registrants complete a short, online evaluation for each session they attend, along with a general conference evaluation. Attendees will have one year from the last day of the conference to complete all evaluations. Visit eval.aanp.org to complete evaluations.

Where do I find my uncompleted CE activities in the AANP CE Center?

  • Log in to the AANP CE Center using your email address and password.
  • On the upper right part of your screen, you will see your name and a drop-down menu.
  • Select “My CE Activities.”

Where can I find my completed CE certificates in the AANP CE Center?

Find certificates for completed CE activities in My CE Tracker or by going to "My CE Tracker" option from the AANP CE Center homepage option list under My Account. You must log in to view CE certificates.

Can I share my CE certificates electronically with a certification board?

  • In partnership with AANPCB, AANP now offers members the ability to transfer to AANPCB all CE certificates stored within the AANP CE Tracker by using a one-click opt-in link found in the My Education section of MyAccount. CE earned through the AANP CE Center or AANP conferences will be automatically accepted by AANPCB. Members also enjoy the unique ability to upload to the AANP CE Tracker any CE certificates earned outside of AANP.
  • This service is available only for AANPCB, and is not available for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
