AANP Recording Secretary
Gretchen Schumacher, PhD, GNP-BC, FNP, NP-C, FAANP
Gretchen Schumacher, PhD, GNP-BC, FNP, NP-C, FAANP, is the recording secretary for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Schumacher served as Region 5 Director from 2017-2021. She’s gained a solid understanding of the AANP Board policies and procedures, preparing her to confidently serve as recording secretary. She serves as a liaison to the AANP Practice committee and AANP Communities supporting the committee’s activities and bringing the Board’s lens of the organizational mission and vision. She was president of the Michigan Council for Nurse Practitioners from 2017-2018. In addition, she also served as PAC Chair. She served as the organization lead representative in the developing coalition, the APRN Alliance of Michigan which included CRNA, CNS and CNM state professional organizations. Governor to the State of Michigan Prescription Drug and Opioid Abuse Task Force 2017-2018: she was commissioned by Governor Snyder to represent the profession of Nursing on this state-wide task force. She collaborated with law enforcement, judicial and law experts, physicians, pharmacists, and dental professionals to develop a strategic plan and activities to impact the crisis in MI. From this she brings experience in collaborating with non-health care stakeholders and explicit national and regional epidemiologic understanding of the opioid crisis. In 2019, she was invited to serve nationally on the Home Centered Care Institute (HCCI) Advisory Council.
