Chief Executive Officer
Jon D. Fanning, MS, CAE, CNED
Jon D. Fanning, MS, CAE, CNED, became the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) on March 1, 2021. He oversees the AANP national office in Austin, Texas, and the government affairs office in Arlington, Virginia, and he is a non-voting member of the AANP Board of Directors.
Fanning has more than 20 years of experience working with organizations on strategic planning, driving membership growth, developing advocacy initiatives and cultivating partnerships both domestically and internationally. Prior to AANP, he had strategic and operational oversight of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), with more than 200 employees and members in more than 100 countries. His roles at APA included Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), Chief Membership Officer (CMO) and Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO). He has also worked at other nationally recognized organizations and has been honored both nationally and internationally for his work.
Jon holds a Master’s in Health Care Administration and a Bachelor’s in Communication and Political Science. He is also a Certified Association Executive (CAE) and a Certified Nonprofit Executive Director (CNED).
