Stephen A. Ferrara, DNP, FNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN
Dr. Stephen Ferrara is the president-elect of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP). He is an actively practicing NP, executive and faculty member. Ferrara combines years of clinical experience along with health policy development to increase access to NP-partnered care in the state of New York and has served as part-time executive director of the Nurse Practitioner Association New York State. He is also a member of the senior leadership team at Columbia University's School of Nursing, serving as the associate dean of clinical affairs and assistant professor. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the NP primary care faculty practice located in Manhattan and teaches health policy in the DNP program.
Ferrara holds a passion for health information technology and integrating evidence-based practice into daily practice. His doctoral work examined the impact of group medical visits for patients with Type 2 diabetes and whether this intervention led to better health outcomes. Ferrara holds many accolades, including the AANP New York State Award for Clinical Excellence and induction as a Fellow of AANP, the American Academy of Nursing and the New York Academy of Medicine.
