I would be honored to be elected as your Missouri Representative for a second term. In this role, I have had the opportunity to speak with many of you across Missouri in an effort to understand the health care needs and barriers to practice in all areas of the state. I would like to continue to seek creative solutions for the challenges and barriers to practice that we face in Missouri by continuing to work toward uniting all 11,000 NPs in the state through provision of education and resources. There is strength in numbers. Through our work together, we can present a consistent message that influences legislators and stakeholders to modernize our current legislation allowing us to practice to the full extent of our training and education. The health of Missouri citizens will benefit from NP care at its best!

I believe that the biggest challenges to practice for NPs consists of the many barriers to practice related to outdated legislation and lack of knowledge of the full capabilities that NPs have that can help meet the health needs of the of the growing number of people with health disparities and uninsured. This includes mileage restrictions, limited access to management methods, lack of inclusion on insurance panels, excessive oversight by mandated collaborative practice agreements, and lack of signature recognition to name a few. All of these limit NP ability to practice to the full extent of training and education. This especially limits the ability to provide care in rural settings and to increasing populations of health disparities. AANP has strength in numbers and access to effective methods to address individual state limitations from experience across the country in addressing these very issues. I know they work hard to disseminate current information and trends which is effective in helping guide state legislation. I think the immense data they have the can increase capability to assist in increasing awareness of NP effectiveness and guide the legislative process to find effective solutions.
As a leader I communicate information clearly, objectively and succinctly to get a point across. An avid listener I keep an open mind and do not judge others opinions or stance. My approach is positive but realistic to motivate, keeping members of the groups engaged and informed. By identifying others strengths, I effectively delegate and develop leadership in others. Because I value constructive criticism, I provide feedback to others in a timely and positive way. I am trustworthy and honest to a fault and always take responsibility for my actions and activities. When in an organizational leadership role, I am committed and passionate about their mission and purpose. I bring a creativity to leadership role, as I tend to try and think outside the box when things are at a standstill or impasse. I have a strong understanding of NP related research, resources and legislation and am comfortable teaching and sharing that knowledge as well as testifying As an appointee to MO Healthnet Oversight, I was able to influence legislators and the Missouri DHSS to recognize all categories of NPs as providers in the Medicaid system with equal reimbursement. Additionally, the use of the word “physician” was changed to “provider”.
To advance the AANP Mission in Missouri I plan to continue my efforts to build a unified front of all NPs across the state inclusive of all regional NP and state NP organizations, to assure we present a clear consistent message about the role and effectiveness of the NP in meeting the health care needs of the people of Missouri. I hope to advance the education of all NPs in Missouri about resources and research to enable them to promote the role of the NP in their communities while advocating for their patients. I want to ensure that all NPs, no matter where they practice, understand the dire need of health and struggles to provide necessary care in every county across our state to ensure a unified approach. I want to motivate, excite and mentor young NPs, assisting them to develop strong relationships with stakeholders to bolster strong future leaders in our field. I will continue to dedicate myself to my profession through improving the laws of my state and country which in turn, will better healthcare delivery for the citizens of Missouri and the US.
