A Family Nurse Practitioner committed to community and collaboration I am dedicated to continuing a strong tradition of working together to accomplish a common mission. As a provider, patient, mother, and wife I am profoundly aware of the difference that Nurse Practitioners make every day, and will work tirelessly to ensure that we have a voice at the table. I have worked as a Regional Representative in our state and have been your AANP New Mexico State Representative for the past 2 years. I plan to continue to use my creativity and drive to create a sense of community in our State. I want every NP in New Mexico to know that their voice makes a difference. Our sense of community is one of our greatest strengths and together we can move mountains!

AANP New Mexico State Representative
Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in Women's Health.
I have been the AANP New Mexico State Representative for the past 2 years. In that role I have helped to build our membership in the state and act as a contact person for anyone with questions or concerns impacting the role of the Nurse Practitioner in our state. I have also served on a number of committees for the New Mexico Nurse Practitioner Council during the years of 2017-2019. I have been the co-chair for the Conference Planning Committee and been an active participant ensuring that we have a dynamic and educational Fall and Spring conference each year. I currently serve on the Nominating Committee which is an elected position and work to promote the NMNPC and ensure that we seek out any Nurse Practitioners in our state interested in volunteering and serving with our organization. I am the Vice President of the Four Corners Aquatic Team, also an elected position and have served in this role for the past 4 years. I was recently nominated to serve on the Superintendent's Parent Advisory Committee to represent our local Middle School.
I think the greatest challenge facing NPs in the delivery of health care is our ability to meet the growing demand while still maintaining work life balance. I see the role of the Nurse Practitioner as transitioning into leading the way in Primary Care and know that we need to do this while maintaining the core of what it means to be an NP. I believe we need to continue to practice in a way that highlights our strengths; our ability to provide excellent care to prevent illness while providing a space of deep listening for our patients. AANP can address this by continuing to advocate for our ability to practice at our full scope while ensuring that the definition of who we are is understood by the masses. Ensuring that we have the ability to spend our time caring for patients, and less time advocating for the care we know we can provide, means that everyone wins and that patients receive our best care. The importance of insurance reimbursement cannot be overlooked, and AANP can also support these challenges by working diligently to ensure that we receive adequate pay for the provision of superior care.
I am a passionate and compassionate leader with years of experience as a mentor, practitioner, and leader. I have worked as a clinical preceptor for more than a decade and have worked with numerous students over the course of my career. I add this role to me full-time profession to ensure the next generation of Nurse Practitioners is ready and willing to take on the demands of our profession. As a leader in the role of the Nurse Practitioner at both the State and National level I have committed myself to promoting our profession to ensure that patients have access and clinicians understand all that an NP can offer in the healthcare space. My work with the New Mexico Nurse Practitioner Council has led to an ever expanding Fall and Spring Conference with a caliber of presenters that now draws attendees from surrounding states. This work highlights my passion for bringing Nurse Practitioners together to ensure that we have a place to network, talk about new ideas, and energize colleagues to become active in our work at the policy level.
As a Nurse Practitioner in a rural location in Northwest New Mexico I advocate daily for the role of the Nurse Practitioner. I have experienced first hand why our role is so vitally important and this experience makes me highly qualified to advocate for the role of the NP. I am a very active member with our state organization and this has given me the opportunity to connect with Nurse Practitioners around the state to ensure they understand the mission of AANP. I live in a state dominated by rural clinics and the health of our citizens depends on the work of the Nurse Practitioner in these communities. I have been able to work with Nurse Practitioners at the grassroots level through our state initiatives and with assistance of my fellow NP leaders. Working closely with our lobbyist we are working to create ever expanding legislation to ensure that Nurse Practitioners are reimbursed for their work as preceptors, are able to order all recommended testing for their patients, and reach parity in how they are reimbursed by insurance plans as the Primary Provider.
