As an experienced Nurse Practitioner, I would be honored to representative Nurse Practitioners in our beautiful State of South Carolina. I will create forums for you to be heard and action plans to address your concerns. I will create opportunities for networking within the state to support your practice as an NP.
Associate Professor
I am currently Director of the Pychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of South Carolina. I recently moved back to the state and I am willing to assist nurse practitioners to practice at the highest level within our scope of practice without restraints. I am a member of NONPF and actively involved in the Director and Psychiatric special interests groups. I am also a member of APNA and I have presented nationally at the above organizations. I do not at this time, plan to engage in additional leadership positions.
The biggest challenge facing NPs in SC is the scope of practice and the requirement to have a collaborating physican to practice. I know moving back to SC this delayed me in obtaining a practice site. I did not have the connections with the medical community at that time. This continues to be an issue in developing new programs in the state that are NP led to assist those most in need. Since, moving back to the state, I have listened to NPs and how much they are paying physicans. Some physicans are earning up to 60,000 a year. This requirement is very profitable for physicans and at the same time is limiting access to care for patients.
I am a respected NP with 28 or greater years of practice. One of my strengths as a leader is to focus the conversaton on patient outcomes and barriers to treatment. As a public speaker, I have experienced presenting data and initiatives to small and larger audiences.
