Leadership Experience in the Past Three Years

I am currently one of the ANA TX Membership Assembly members for the 2022-2023. I have led several initiatives at work, such as I was the Test-to-Treat Lead in which I interacted with certain regional Urgent Care Centers that implemented Test-to-Treat in their centers. I was charged with speaking with their leadership to identify their needs and provide resources. Prior to moving TX, I was heavily involved in TN Nurses Association, where I was nominated to the Nominating Committee 2 years in a row and I was the District 15 Secretary too.

Biggest Challenge Facing Nurse Practitioners and How AANP Can Help

I believe that the biggest challenge facing NPs and the delivery of healthcare over the next decade will be the workforce shortage and faculty shortage. I believe that as the population continues to age and more people develop more chronic illnesses, the need for healthcare providers is on the rise. However, our faculty are aging at the same right and we are not replenishing with new faculty. There are no incentives to bring in new faculty; pay, loan repayment, etc. AANP can help address this issue and support NPs by standing up for gender and racial parity. AANP can also work with institutions to work on strategies for loan repayments if individuals come and work for them as NP faculty. Lastly, AANP and AANPBC can look at the recertification process for NP faculty who are teaching the next generation and are teaching clinicals and giving them credit & they don’t need a second patient-facing role. This will force the institutions to look at the salaries.

Example of Initiative or Outcome of Leadership

I have a strong background in health disparities, patient advocacy, organizational skills, marketing skills, project management, and business acumen. I led a year-long DE&I speaker program where I brought in internal and external speakers to speak on a variety of topics (psychological safety, microaggressions, allyship/sponsorship, etc.)

If Elected, I Propose to Advance the AANP Mission as Follows

I advance the mission and the strategic plan of AANP on the daily basis. With everything that I do at work or outside of work, I am looking to empower all NPs and ensure will able to practice at the full level of our license and education. At my company, along with another NP colleague, we are attempting to create the first nurse group in our company’s history. During International Nurses’ Month, we hosted our first Townhall with over 800 attendees. Our keynote speaker was an international nurse leader known to many of us.
