Leadership Experience in the Past Three Years

Past leadership experiences include assisting in training and onboarding several new employees at my 2 previous positions as well as leading the coding and documentation changes for optimal performance initiatives. Also lead NP in SHC NP position. In the future two years, i am hopeful to serve in the role of state liaison for the Alabama area to assist in growth of both the AANP for the state as well as to better educate and spread knowledge about the role of the NP in underserved and rural areas as well as state wide.

Biggest Challenge Facing Nurse Practitioners and How AANP Can Help

The biggest challenge facing NPs in healthcare over the next decade is the provider shortage. State laws and regulations that restrict their scope of practice can limit their ability to meet increasing demand for primary care services. The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) can address this by advocating for the removal of outdated restrictions on NP practice, supporting NP education and training, promoting public awareness of the role and capabilities of NPs, and fostering collaboration with other healthcare organizations. Investments in professional development can ensure that NPs have the necessary skills and competency to provide quality healthcare. Public awareness campaigns can increase acceptance and utilization of NP services. Collaboration can help integrate NPs more effectively into the healthcare system, improving access to care and patient outcomes. Overall, AANP should address the challenge of limited NP practice authority by advocating for policy changes, supporting education and training, promoting public awareness, and fostering collaboration with other healthcare organizations.

Example of Initiative or Outcome of Leadership

I would be brining the skill of collaboration as well as communication. I believe that collaboration is key to achieving success. I have the ability to build strong teams, foster collaboration, and create an inclusive work environment. I actively engage teammates, encourage their participation, and value their contributions. I am hopeful to be able to assist in the growth towards increasing practice outcomes for the state of Alabama. For example, in a recent role, i served growing the documentation and coding practice in order to ensure nurse practitioners were not only documenting to the fullest potential for every patient but also to ensure that patient care was put at the highest priority and was not sacrificed. This was achieved through collaboration of several departments, specialists and collaboration with experts in the areas of documentation and coding.

If Elected, I Propose to Advance the AANP Mission as Follows

For me, the answer to this lies in something I am so passionate about. The importance of full practice authority for nurse practitioners cannot be overstated in the current healthcare landscape. By granting nurse practitioners full practice authority, we can unleash the full potential of these healthcare providers and address the growing shortage of primary care physicians, especially in underserved areas. Full practice authority for nurse practitioners will not only improve access to quality healthcare but also enhance patient outcomes. Nurse practitioners are trained to provide a wide range of healthcare services, including diagnosing illnesses, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing and implementing treatment plans, and prescribing medications. By allowing nurse practitioners to practice to the full extent of their education and training, we can ensure that patients receive timely and efficient care. Moreover, nurse practitioners often have a strong emphasis on preventive care, health promotion, and patient education, which can significantly contribute to disease prevention and improved patient outcomes. I will ensure to not only educate the public on the positive impacts of nurse practitioners but also continue to advocate for the full practice authority through all 50 states in order to advance the mission of the AANP.
