Current Professional Position

Family Nurse Practitioner, Medical Director and Chief Clinical Officer

Leadership Experience in the Past Three Years

I have been the President and currently past-president for VCNP. I am the medical director for our Family Medicine Clinic, sit on our physicians group board as an APP representative and am the Chief Clinical Officer for our physicians group owned community practices.

Biggest Challenge Facing Nurse Practitioners and How AANP Can Help

Barriers to practice. Continue to support and encourage legislative changes to reduce unnecessary barriers to NPs practicing throughout the U.S.

Example of Initiative or Outcome of Leadership

As a practicing NP with over 18 years of experience, I bring experience and understanding to the challenges and opportunities facing NPs in the state of Virginia. I am a known leader in my organization and have helped lead many APP initiatives throughout our system, including advocating to have an APP on our board. I eventually became the first NP to sit on our physicians group board and have retained this position for 6 years. I have been a spokesperson, at many levels within the organization where I work and at the state level, promoting the reduction of antiquated practice laws and expanding the opportunities for NP to practice. As a prior Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners president, I have gained a considerable amount of knowledge and experience with legislative processes and have helped usher in legislative changes to aim at reducing practice barriers.

If Elected, I Propose to Advance the AANP Mission as Follows

I would continue to engage in legislative support and awareness to further move the needle towards full practice authority for the state of Virginia. Whether that is through engaging with members, other organizations (ex: VCNP), learning from states ahead of us, or creating new relationships with local and state legislators. Creating the awareness of NPs, our ability to expand access and the need to reduce practice barriers would be fundamental to this role and the work I would desire to engage in.
