If I am elected into the role of AANP President-Elect, I will bring three decades of NP experience with me that includes clinical practice, NP education, executive level administrative skills and high level involvement in national, state and local professional organizations. My professional life experiences have helped me gain a deep understanding of NP issues. I appreciate collaboration that leads to effective strategy that moves us closer to reaching our goals and the patience and persistence I see in NPs. I have developed clearer communication skills which I utilize well in my practice advocacy work and I sincerely believe NPs are essential to good health care. If elected, I will remain committed to honesty, transparency, and hard work. I will lead with respect and inclusion and never lose sense of what an honor and the great responsibility it would be to represent NPs and AANP.

I think the greatest challenge facing NPs in the delivery of health care over the next decade is our practice environment. It is inconsistent from state to state and in some states remains restrictive. We need to collaborate nationally to come to a place where every state has Full Practice Authority, as defined by AANP, and FPA is implemented in a consistent way in statute and in practice across all states. This is the greatest challenge because after 58 years, we are still fighting barriers to practice, such as the diabetic shoe bill and despite great effort, there is a great deal of inconsistency in statue between the states, even in states that have FPA. Our goal is for patients to have full and direct access to care delivered by NPs. We need to continue advocacy work in this space to reach this goal including lobbying for legislation, insurance reimbursement, signature authority, and related stakeholder education. AANP needs to be resilient, persevere, educate and continue the current efforts being made towards FPA in all states. AANP needs to continue to collect data on access to care, the safety and quality of NP delivered care and the positive impact of FPA.
My leadership skills include prioritization of the inclusion of an analytical analysis and data to make informed decisions, the ability to clearly and effectively communicate, a non-judgmental approach, open-mindedness and resilience. I am organized and have excellent time management skills. I truly believe in the value of NPs to healthcare and use those beliefs to influence strategy, decisions and support for our profession. I have learned the great importance of recognition and acknowledgement of the work that our workforce performs which is more important than ever post-pandemic. At work, I have been an integral part of the development of our new Clinician Celebration Program and sit on the selection committee to determine recipients.. I have influenced AANPs recent promotion of "NPs on the Plaza" of the Today Show and Good Morning America during National NP Week. I brought the idea to AANPs marketing team because I saw it as an effective way to get our name and role in health care out on a national media platform. We participated in the inaugural event last year which was immensely successful and this year looks like it will be even bigger with more attendees, many from all around the country.
As the current Treasurer for AANP, I am very familiar with the Strategic Plan. In my role, I continually monitor our financials and work with the CEO and financial team to ensure fiscal responsibility. Financial stewardship will ensure that we are able to carry out the strategies we are implementing to meet the goals of our Strategic Plan. Our Strategic Plan is based on our underlying philosophy of the acronym PEARL. We are focused on supporting practice to the fullest extent of our education and training and eliminating barriers to FPA. We are committed to education whether it be at a conference, On Demand, or on-line CE. Our goals for advocacy, whether a the national or state level are removal of barriers to full practice ability, education of legislators and the provision of the tools and resources needed for effective advocacy efforts. Data obtained from our research backs the direction we take to meet the goals of our Strategic Plan. We have invested in a Leadership Program to grow new leaders and continuously support mentorship and encouragement of those who will lead us into the future of the profession.
