It is an honor and privilege to be a candidate for AANP Region 3 Director. I have been practicing as a nurse practitioner for almost 40 years and I have been a member of AANP for many years. Throughout that time period I have come to love nursing and the NP role and volunteered to serve on AANP committees, elected for two terms on the nominations committee, and volunteered to serve as official AANP photographer to keep a photographic record of the rich history of NPs and AANP. I am excited by the opportunity to continue to work with you - the members of Region 3 - and the AANP board of directors as we seek to achieve our mission to empower all NPs to advance accessible, person-centered, equitable, high-quality health care for diverse communities through practice, education, advocacy, research and leadership.

There are many challenges facing NPs and healthcare over the next decade. A few include, access to quality care, health equity, workforce issues and lack of joy in practice, rising costs of healthcare, technology integration and use and precision health. NPs are well positioned to lead efforts to transform health care by serving as leaders in care delivery and at the table with key stakeholders and elected officials to develop and implement evidence informed policy. As a professional home for nurse practitioners, AANP will address these complex challenges by working to empower all NPs to advance the quintuple aim of healthcare, through practice, education, advocacy, research and leadership (PEARL).
I have served in the past as the President of Sigma Theta Tau International and the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. Further, I have served as Treasurer, Vice President and Board Member on non-profit boards. One example of an outcome is, while serving as AANP board liaison to the AANP History Committee, I facilitated the process of developing and awarding of AANPs first History Grants.
As a board member, I will participate in meeting AANP strategic goals and objectives and review operational efforts that will transform care and move forward the goal that all patients will have full and direct access to high-quality, equitable health care and will have the ability to choose NPs as their health care provider. Further, as a subject matter expert in engaging the media, I will lead efforts and support programs and initiatives that acknowledge NPs authority, leadership and expertise in delivering high-quality, equitable health care. In addition, I will work with AANP SGA and FGA to lead efforts and advocate for policies to ensure NPs have parity with physicians and other providers in reimbursement, payment and government funding. Finally, as a board member I will seek new initiatives and programs in which drive the strategic goal that AANP will be recognized as the leading resource for NP practice, education, advocacy, research and leadership in health care.
