National Nurse Practitioner Week is held annually to celebrate these exceptional health care providers and to remind lawmakers of the importance of removing outdated barriers to practice so nurse practitioners (NPs) will be allowed to practice to the full extent of their experience and education.

Save the Date for National NP Week November 10–16, 2024.

The NP role needs you! This special week offers numerous opportunities to bring recognition to the NP role and increase awareness of the exceptional care that NPs provide.

National NP Week was held November 12-18, 2023. During 2023, the NP Week theme was NP Week: Recognizing Heroes in Health Care. The resource guide below includes information such as a sample news release, talking points, an NP fact sheet, community activities, a media interview guide, posters and guidelines for writing a letter to the editor. The 2023 NP Week Proclamation was signed by elected officials to honor NPs for improving the health of patients in their communities.

NP Week Proclamation Map

Each state’s efforts to secure an NP Week proclamation are highlighted on AANP’s annual NP Week Proclamation Map. In 2023, states that received proclamations signed by any elected official were marked green on the map — or even better — filled with pictures of NPs who were present for the signing or an image of the proclamation itself. Congratulations to NPs in Hawaii for submitting the first proclamation of 2023, signed by Governor Josh Green!
