Region 1 Director Valerie J. Fuller

Dr. Valerie Fuller is the Region 1 Director of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP). She has been a practicing family nurse practitioner (FNP) and adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (AGACNP) for more than 20 years. Fuller is an assistant professor of nursing at the University of Southern Maine and assistant professor of surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine.

She is the past president of the Maine Nurse Practitioner Association (MNPA), having served on its executive board for five years. During her tenure as MNPA president, she was instrumental in passing the global signature bill and in forming the APRN advisory committee to the Maine Board of Nursing.

She served as the AANP Maine State Representative from 2014 to 2020, was inducted as an AANP Fellow (FAANP) in 2016 and currently serves as a member of the FAANP Selection Committee. She is actively involved in advanced practice registered nursing (APRN) education, practice and policy issues at the local, state and national levels. Her clinical and research interests include vascular surgery, wound care and delirium.

She is the 2021 recipient of the AANP State Advocacy Award for Excellence, which recognizes dedicated advocates in each state who have made significant contributions toward increasing the awareness and recognition of NPs.
