Dr. Robert Metzger is the Region 6 Director of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP).
As a nurse practitioner (NP) with 24 years of experience, Robert upholds AANP’s mission in his roles as a practitioner, educator, policy advocate, researcher, and leader. He demonstrated leadership through multiple executive and committee positions at the institutional, local, state, and national levels. Clinically, he serves as the Director of Advanced Practice at Parkland Health. In addition to this full-time job, he served as an adjunct faculty for Texas Woman’s University till Fall 2023. He published articles and presented lectures regarding spine care and advocacy issues, and currently serves as a peer editor for the Journal of Nurse Practitioners.
Robert served on the AANP Nomination Council for six years. He also is a past president of Texas Nurse Practitioners and was the 2020 Texas NP of the Year. Currently, he runs North Texas Nurse Practitioners, a local organization of over 500 NPs in Dallas, as their administrator. Through these and various other leadership positions, Robert learned and utilized transformational leadership and policy advocacy skills. These will assist him in serving AANP as the Region 6 Director. He is excited about the opportunity to continue his leadership within AANP upholding its exemplary professional organization status.
