Stephen Ferrara, DNP, FNP-BC, FAANP, is an actively practicing NP, executive and faculty member. He combines years of clinical experience along with health policy development to increase access to NP-partnered care in the state of New York by serving as part-time executive director of the Nurse Practitioner Association New York State. Dr. Ferrara is also a member of the senior leadership team Columbia University's School of Nursing, serving as the associate dean of clinical affairs and assistant professor. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the NP primary care faculty practice located in Manhattan and teaches health policy in the DNP program.
Dr. Ferrara holds a passion for health information technology and integrating evidence-based practice into daily practice. His doctoral work examined the impact of group medical visits for patients with type II diabetes and whether this intervention led to better health outcomes. Dr. Ferrara is one of a handful of NPs who blog. His blog, A Nurse Practitioner's View, attracts thousands of monthly readers and covers current issues, trends and policies in health care. He holds many accolades, including the AANP NY State Award for Clinical Excellence, induction as a Fellow of AANP and the New York Academy of Medicine.
