• New Nursing Home Guidance and Recommendations: As previously reported, in response to the impact of COVID-19 on nursing homes, HHS created the Coronavirus Commission on Safety and Quality in Nursing Homes in order to evaluate the nursing home response to COVID-19 and recommend future actions to improve infection prevention, control measures and safety procedures in nursing homes. On September 16, 2020, the Commission released their final commission report with recommendations on actions that federal and state entities should take in order to improve nursing home safety. Additionally, on September 17, 2020, CMS issued revised guidance to nursing homes on safe visitation practices. This guidance is designed to safely help staff and facilities make the process easier for visits to residents. The guidance and recommendations are available at the CMS.gov guidance website as well as a flow chart outlining coverage and payment for COVID-19 testing in Nursing Facilities.
