2020 AANP National Conference: COVID-19 Update

The 2020 American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) National Conference is currently scheduled to take place as planned June 23–28 in New Orleans. AANP is closely monitoring the health and safety updates issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as state and local health organizations. We are also working closely with the city of New Orleans to ensure health safety measures are in place. As we get closer to conference, AANP will outline all safety protocols that are taking place based on the current state of affairs related to COVID-19.

AANP will post updates as more information becomes available. In the meantime, information on travel, COVID-19 prevention and situational updates is available on the CDC and WHO websites. We are looking forward to seeing you in New Orleans.

Is the 2020 AANP National Conference still taking place?

  • The 2020 AANP National Conference is planned to take place as scheduled June 23–28 in New Orleans.
  • AANP will actively monitor the COVID-19 situation and will keep attendees, exhibitors, speakers and other participants informed to ensure a safe and successful conference.

What is AANP doing to prepare?

  • In addition to monitoring updates from the CDC and WHO, AANP is working with New Orleans hotels, the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and Visit New Orleans to evaluate health and safety measures to help safeguard all attendees.
  • AANP will communicate any change to the conference's status via emails and posts on the conference webpage.
  • AANP encourages attendees to make this year’s conference handshake-free to minimize the potential transmission of any illness.

What is the convention center doing to prepare?

The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center recognizes that COVID-19 is at the top of each attendee’s mind. It is consistently monitoring protocols from the CDC and WHO to continually implement new processes and procedures to ensure the safety of all attendees in the building. AANP is working closely with the Ernst N. Morial Convention Center to ensure the most recent protocols are in effect during our conference. In May, we will update the most recent protocols to promote health and wellbeing.

What are the hotels doing to prepare?

The hotels are monitoring protocols from the CDC and WHO and continually implementing new processes and procedures to ensure the safety of all guests in their facilities. AANP is working closely with each hotel to ensure the most recent protocols are in effect during the conference. We are requesting that each hotel institute the following to promote a healthy stay:

1. Review their standards for hygiene and cleanliness and ensure they have implemented well-established hygiene standards and daily cleaning/disinfection procedures for all parts of the hotel.

2. Encourage hotel associates to follow the CDC recommendations for everyday preventive actions to avoid the spread of respiratory diseases. They are also encouraging all hotel guests to share the following practices:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the restroom, before eating and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.

What safety precautions are being implemented at the airports?

The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is monitoring the COVID-19 situation, and updates to standards and protocols can be found on its website.

I do not plan to attend the 2020 AANP National Conference due to the outbreak. Can I follow along remotely?

At this time, the 2020 AANP National Conference is scheduled to take place as planned and does not have plans for livestreaming. Please monitor this website for updates, which will be posted if circumstances change.

I do not plan to attend the 2020 AANP National Conference due to the outbreak. Can I get reimbursed?

  • The AANP current cancellation policy allows for individuals to cancel with a $75 administrative fee through May 11, 2020. Note: If AANP cancels this event, refunds in their entirety will be issued, including the $75 administrative fee.
  • Should you need to cancel, it is important that you cancel your hotel arrangements, as well.
  • AANP will not refund individual airline ticket costs. Please contact your airline directly regarding ticket cancellations and refund policies. If you purchased travel insurance, please contact your insurance provider for information and next steps.
  • Registrants should monitor this website frequently, as circumstances may change.
