Acute Care Specialty Practice Group

I am excited to come on board as the co-chair of the Acute Care Community! As an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner for 11 years, it is a joy to witness the expansion of our role in so many diverse areas of healthcare. We are valued members of the healthcare team in clinical practice, health system leadership, and academia. I value this Community as a place to discuss ideas among fellow practitioners and network with colleagues. I look forward to facilitating online conversations through the discussion board and will be glad when we can all be in person at the next National Conference! Be sure to visit the discussion boards regularly and share your expertise with peers.

I am looking forward to my second year as your Acute Care SIG co-chair. With almost 40 years as a nurse and 21 as an ACNP I have seen huge changes in our health care landscape and our particular role in advanced practice. Acute care nurse practitioners are of vital importance in our population health, and it has never been more important that we come prepared with the proper education and certification necessary to meet the needs of our acute and critically ill patients. Initially developed largely to “bridge a gap” we have become a necessary and sought after component of the health care system and function not only in acute and critical care but in specially practices where we bring the knowledge and skills necessary to treat the acute stages of illness as well as maintain the chronic, stable state of these patients. As Acute Care NP’s our impact is broad and complex and we encounter a plethora of topics, issues and concerns. This forum is a wonderful community and vehicle for discussion. I am thrilled to continue to help facilitate our forum and look forward to your contributions to our discussions.
