Mental illness is one of the largest health issues facing America, and nurse practitioners (NPs) must come together to be part of the solution. The Psych and Mental Health Community offers a unique opportunity to interactively collaborate with colleagues who share interest or clinical expertise in mental health. As a community member, you’ll have access to a cutting-edge, online forum where you can engage in discussions, document sharing and knowledge exchange with fellow NPs. Come learn, share and help progress the development of theory and practice in mental health.

My name is Lisa Anderson, and I am honored to be a new co-chair for the AANP Psych and Mental Health Community. I am a psychiatric mental health NP in an outpatient psychiatric clinic as well as an assistant adjunct professor for the psych mental health NP DNP program at UT Health San Antonio. My area of interest in clinical practice includes attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism.
Other than my career, my interests include reading the next psychological thriller on my Kindle, assembling a jigsaw puzzle with my teenage daughter and spending time with my husband.
My goals for this community include promoting active discussions related to psychiatric and mental health topics, disseminating relevant psychiatric research and sharing our collective expertise to further enhance our image and growth across the nation in the field of advanced practice psychiatric nursing.

Dr. Brayden Kameg currently serves as an associate professor of nursing in the Department of Health and Community Systems, where she coordinates the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) program. She currently teaches across undergraduate and graduate programs. Her primary teaching responsibilities include substance use management, child/adolescent psychiatry, psychopharmacology and psychiatric management in primary care. Dr. Kameg’s academic interests include integrating substance use and mental health-related competencies across undergraduate and graduate programs. She has received extramural funding through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse. This funding has supported her work, which seeks to improve the ability of both nurses and NPs to meet the mental and behavioral health care needs of the populations that they serve.
Clinically, Dr. Kameg is co-founder and co-owner of a private practice, Peace of Mind Psychiatry, where she treats patients across the lifespan. She is the founding program director of a PMHNP residency program at the Veterans Administration Pittsburgh Healthcare System, where she sees patients on an inpatient basis and in the addiction psychiatry program.
