A Message From the Pulmonary and Sleep SPG Co-chairs

Annie Perng, MSN, CRNP, CWOCN

Annie Perng is honored to serve as Co-chair for the Pulmonary and Sleep SPG. She is a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania’s Harron Lung Center in Philadelphia. Prior to joining the practice in January 2018, she worked with liver and lung transplant patients as a bedside nurse for four years. Today, she collaborates with 12 pulmonologists in the hospital’s Advanced Consultative Pulmonary Clinic, evaluating and treating people with obstructive and restrictive pulmonary diseases, occupational or immune disorders, chronic infections, tobacco dependence, chronic cough, multifactorial dyspnea and sleep disordered breathing. She also coordinates the Jay and Randy Fishman Program for Home Assisted Ventilation, which supports people living with chronic respiratory failure as a result of neuromuscular diseases including muscular dystrophy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Through multidisciplinary collaboration and telemonitoring of therapeutic ventilator data, the Fishman Program treats ventilator-dependent people across the lifespan with the goal of improving quality of life and augmenting the continuity of care throughout the entire health system.

Millions of people around the world have respiratory disorders, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Their numbers are growing and annually, billions of dollars are lost due to exacerbations which were preventable. Whether you are working inpatient or outpatient, in a primary care setting or a specialty practice, the Pulmonary and Sleep SPG will be a valuable network and resource for you. This SPG focuses on discussing new evidence-based interventions, practice updates and pulmonary resources, and it serves as a venue for discussing clinical trends and challenging issues. Your participation is welcome here!

Nanette Alexander DNP, APRN

Welcome to the new Pulmonary and Sleep SPG. AANP has seen the interest in pulmonary and sleep specialty grow and is supporting this venue to share and support our practices. I am pleased and honored to help launch this new endeavor.

My name is Nanette Alexander and I am certified as an adult NP. I have worked in an outpatient setting in Glastonbury and West Hartford, Connecticut, in mixed internal medicine/specialty pulmonary care practice since 1998.

My pulmonary interest is in providing outpatient care with direct patient care for things such as insomnia, sleep apnea, COPD and asthma. I believe that the models of best health care delivery include collaboration of care and utilizing all health care providers to their full scope of practice.

I invite you to join our forum, both in-person at the clinical conference and online, to support our specialty practice. I look forward in facilitating this new SPG with my co-chair Annie Perng.
