This Urology and Nephrology Specialty Practice Group (SPG) offers a unique opportunity for you to interactively collaborate with colleagues who share interest or clinical expertise in urological conditions and kidney health.
As an SPG member, you’ll have access to a cutting-edge, online forum where you can engage in discussions, document sharing and knowledge exchange with your fellow nurse practitioners (NPs). Come learn, share and help progress the development of theory and practice in urology and nephrology.
A Message From the Urology and Nephrology SPG Co-chairs
Dr. Gray is an NP and professor in the Department of Urology and School of Nursing at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Dr. Gray earned his master's degree as a pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) from the University of Virginia in 1981, and his certificate as a family nurse practitioner (FNP) in 2000. He earned a PhD in lower urinary tract physiology from the University of Florida in 1990.
Dr. Gray is licensed as an FNP and PNP and holds additional certification as a urologic nurse practitioner. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing and a Board Member of the Society's Center for Clinical Investigation. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on topics related to urologic nursing, wound, ostomy and continence nursing and evidence-based practice. A fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, Dr. Gray is past president of both the Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates and Certification board for Urologic Nurses and Associates.
I am proud to have been asked to serve as co-chair of the new Urology and Nephrology SPG. As a nephrology NP for many years, I’ve worked hard to encourage and educate other NPs about nephrology, as it can be a very confusing and often intimidating field of health care. I’ve grown quite passionate about doing what I can to teach NPs about the complexities of nephrology and how they can take this information back to their practice to improve the care of their patients. I’m aware that the number of NPs working in nephrology has grown dramatically over the last few years, so I look forward to working with my urology co-chair to bring a better understanding of this area of practice to the AANP community.

Urology and Nephrology SPG Details and Eligibility
- Annual Dues: $20.
- Available exclusively to current AANP members.
- Open to all AANP members with specialty practice or interest in urology and nephrology, particularly those with board certification.
