Nurse practitioners (NPs) are coming together to impact the weight and health of our communities. The Obesity Specialty Practice Group (SPG) offers a unique opportunity to interactively collaborate with colleagues who share interest or clinical expertise in obesity. As an SPG member, you’ll have access to a cutting-edge, online forum where you can engage in discussions, document sharing and knowledge exchange with fellow NPs. Come learn, share and help progress the development of theory and practice in obesity.
I am honored to be co-chairing the Obesity SPG and am very excited to have a place for a community of NPs interested in treating patients with obesity. This disease is going to take all health care providers to recognize the available evidence-based treatment and institute the care, but I feel that NPs are perfect to treat this disease with our strong education in teaching and including the whole patient and their family in our practice view.
Treating obesity is not simple. Obesity itself is as complicated as is the treatment of it. The causes and complications are very individualized. No "one size” or any one type of treatment fits all. Nurse practitioners are perfectly poised to help our patients who have obesity improve their health which includes their quality of life related to the many aspects of having obesity.
I am honored to share my 20-plus years of experience working with patients who have obesity, and with experts in the field, to help NPs learn more about providing state-of-the-art care to their patients, too.
Join this growing SPG community and engage with other like-minded NPs with an interest in obesity. Take part in interactive discussion and debate, gain support and explore Q&As and always be on top of the latest available news, education and information.
