The Orthopedics Specialty Practice Group (SPG) offers a unique opportunity to interactively collaborate with colleagues who share interest or clinical expertise in orthopedics. As an SPG member, you’ll have access to a cutting-edge, online forum where you can engage in discussions, document sharing and knowledge exchange with your fellow nurse practitioners (NPs). Come learn, share and help progress the development of theory and practice in orthopedics.
I am proud to co-chair the AANP Orthopedic SPG and help others discover the joy of musculoskeletal care. One of the things I like most about orthopedics is that we treat musculoskeletal conditions across the lifespan. In a single day, patients may include a child with bowed legs learning to walk, a competitive athlete with an overuse injury and an older adult with arthritis. The children in my clinic are the most delightful and the retirees are the most interesting. The kids are seldom sick, and we get to play with them as part of the exam, while the older adults have the most interesting stories to share. The proportion of our population with musculoskeletal disease is increasing, and NPs are well positioned to help meet their needs. I invite you to join the Orthopedic SPG to lean more.
Musculoskeletal (MSK) problems are in the top reasons for primary care visits, and over half of chronic medical conditions in the United States are related to MSK diagnoses. These conditions are a leading cause of disability, resulting in both individual and societal burden. NPs are in prime position to assist in identification and treatment of orthopedic conditions. The Orthopedic SPG supports the community of orthopedic focused NPs to learn, engage and network about musculoskeletal diagnoses and issues. Goals of this SPG include optimizing professional engagement and patient outcomes, with a multimodal approach to the orthopedic specialty.
Join this growing SPG community and engage with other like-minded NPs with an interest in orthopedics. Take part in interactive discussion and debate, gain support and explore Q&As and always be on top of the latest available news, education and information.
