AUSTIN, TEXAS — The American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) is pleased to announce that the organization has received an award through the Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Award Program, an initiative of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). The funds will support the dissemination of patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research findings (CER) to nurse practitioners (NPs) as part of AANP’s Clinical Effectiveness Research Initiative (CERi).
Older adults are at an increased risk of experiencing anxiety and depression. Yet, recent research has concluded that while the incidence of these conditions is growing in older adults, the likelihood of treatment is not. CERi will focus specifically on disseminating PCORI-funded CER findings on depression and anxiety treatments for adults aged 60 and over to NPs.
NPs who treat older adults in primary care and psych-mental health settings must continuously stay current on the latest research related to treatment to ensure that older adults receive timely, effective and evidence-based care. Over the next two years, CERi will raise awareness and increase knowledge of these findings within the NP community through social media, continuing education activities, podcast episodes and forum discussions.
The Engagement Award to AANP is part of a portfolio of projects that PCORI has funded to help develop a community of patients, caregivers, clinicians and other stakeholders to engage as partners in all phases of patient-centered CER and to disseminate PCORI-funded study results. AANP’s project was selected as part of a highly competitive review process in which applications were assessed for their ability to meet PCORI’s engagement goals and objectives, as well as program criteria.
