The Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) will be accepting applications from both mentors and mentees for the FAANP Mentoring Program. This initiative fulfills one of the original purposes of the FAANP program —established by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) in 2000 — to foster meaningful mentorship between nurse practitioner (NP) leaders and the next generation of NPs. By pairing seasoned Fellows with NPs seeking professional growth, FAANP is making an enduring investment in the health care leaders of the future.
Exclusively available to AANP members, this yearlong program matches qualified applicants with an AANP Fellow for one-to-one mentorship. Together, each mentor–mentee pair will work on mutually agreed-upon goals, engaging in disciplined, solutions-focused discussions; expanding the NP professional network; elevating the NP experience; and more. Mentorship offers invaluable support, feedback and insight for mentees while providing mentors with a deeply rewarding opportunity to shape the profession’s future.
There is no cost to participate if selected, although specific qualifications and expectations apply. Mentee applicants must be an AANP member in good standing and have at least three years of post-licensure experience. The program is not a pathway to AANP Fellowship and is not to be used to support an academic or educational program because mentors may not serve as an advisor for any part of degree completion.
A previous mentee, Irene Oyolu, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, describes her experience being mentored by Alison Mitchell, MSN, ACNP-BC, FAANP, as follows, “The whole time, she was encouraging me, letting me know that I can do this, I already have it in me. That encouragement meant a lot to me, and things I didn't even know I was able to do, she encouraged me to do. She's a very, very good motivator and encourager. It was a very nice experience.”
If you are seeking a mentor to work with on a one-to-one basis to enhance your professional and personal growth, consider applying for the FAANP Mentoring Program today. The deadline for submission is Nov. 24, 2025, at 5 p.m. CST.
