Attend the 2023 AANP Health Policy Conference

HPC

Connect with fellow nurse practitioners and make your voice heard at this transformative conference in Washington, D.C.

Health policy is always changing, and what is decided on Capitol Hill and in state capitals across the country affects all nurse practitioners (NPs). Whether advocating for Full Practice Authority (FPA) in your state or improving Medicare patients’ access to needed therapeutic shoes and other NP-delivered health care services, members of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) are on the front lines ensuring their patients have access to the care they need. The 2023 AANP Health Policy Conference is designed to equip NPs with the skills needed to effectively advocate on behalf of their patients and their profession. Be a part of the solution by attending this conference!

What Health Policy Means to NPs

“It’s important to get involved in health policy because it directly impacts what you can do as an NP, as well as what kind of access to care your patients get,” states Tracy Klein, PhD, ARNP, FAAN, FAANP, in an interview with AANP. “I think one of the strengths of AANP that I’ve always appreciated is that they do have some activities that are designed specifically for people who are interested in health policy. That would be the 2023 AANP Health Policy Conference, and that would be the mentorship that AANP provides to walk people through the process of going up to Capitol Hill and meeting with their legislators and having a conversation.”

NPs who attend Hill Day at the 2023 AANP Health Policy Conference — which returns after a hiatus — will have the chance to do exactly that on Jan. 31. At this highly anticipated event, AANP schedules appointments for NPs to meet directly with their senators, representatives and staff. Elected officials create the federal legislation that impacts NP practice, and it’s important these legislators know the value of NP delivered health care.

What You’ll Learn at the 2023 AANP Health Policy Conference

The 2023 AANP Health Policy Conference is unique in that NPs will put their training and advocacy skills to use during the conference. Attendees will:

  • Experience presentations from AANP staff, including “What You Need to Know About Capitol Hill,” and hear from guest speakers discussing “The Effect of Chronic Health Conditions to the Health Care System” and “Impacting Change from Within.”
  • Network with other NPs who also prioritize advocacy.
  • Learn what Congress and the Administration plan to focus on in the coming year.
  • Meet with members of Congress and their staff to advocate on behalf of the NP role and ensure The Voice of the Nurse Practitioner® is heard throughout the halls of Congress.

Supporting patients’ access to health care does not end at the 2023 AANP Health Policy Conference. Learn more about amplifying the NP voice through the AANP Advocacy Center and access additional health policy resources, including state policy maps, position statements and more.
