AUSTIN, TEXAS — In 1985, a handful of forward-thinking advocates for the nurse practitioner (NP) role gathered under a Pennsylvania apple tree and created a coalition to represent the interests of all NPs. In 2025, that organization — now known as the American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) — celebrates its 40-year anniversary.
The theme for the association’s ruby anniversary is: “AANP at 40: Honoring a Legacy, Shaping the Future,” and a number of exciting commemorations and celebrations are planned for 2025! Take part in AANP’s 40th anniversary celebration throughout the year with a special episode of AANP’s podcast, NP Pulse: The Voice of the Nurse Practitioner®, featuring testimonials from NPs present at the debut of the NP role in the 1960s to those working at the forefront of the role today; an anniversary video exploring the development of NP practice, education, advocacy, research and leadership; and merchandise available at the AANP Store celebrating 40 years of AANP.
NPs, NP students and advocates alike are all invited to celebrate this incredible milestone at the most impactful NP event of the year — the 2025 AANP National Conference.
