The federal government is in its third week of a partial government shutdown. Even with the shutdown, Congress was sworn in last week and will continue to work toward a solution to bring the shutdown to an end.
We at AANP are working to ensure that new and returning members of Congress are aware of the critical role nurse practitioners (NPs) have in communities throughout the country. Using the AANP Advocacy Center, take a moment to introduce or reintroduce yourself to your elected officials and educate them on the high-quality, cost-effective care that NPs provide to patients.
As legislative initiatives are introduced in the 116th Congress, we will continue to keep you updated.
As of this week, 12 state legislatures are currently in session. By the end of the month, 45 states will be actively deciding legislative policy that will shape health care policy for years to come. AANP’s state policy team is screening pre-filed legislation and already has more than 60 planned bills that we are monitoring for members. In the coming weeks, our team will have updated state sheets, a new bill tracking system and targeted updates available. Stay tuned to learn of opportunities in your state to improve your practice and patient access to care.
The 2019 AANP Health Policy Conference is just around the corner, and there are fewer than 15 seats available for the conference. We don't want you to miss out on the opportunity to hear from fellow NPs and government and industry experts and meet with your members of Congress. The conference will be in a sold out situation very soon, so if you are planning to addend, we strongly encourage you to register today!
