Communities are now available for infectious disease and HIV, ophthalmology, oncology, otolaryngology and wound care.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — The American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) is pleased to announce five new AANP Communities that are now available to members. For $20 each annually, AANP members may join one or more of the 28 Specialty Practice Groups (SPGs) and Specialty Interest Groups (SIG) where nurse practitioners (NPs) discuss emerging research, effective treatments and more via online forums and direct messaging.

SPGs present a terrific opportunity for NPs who share an interest in specialty practice areas to create meaningful connections with like-minded colleagues, gain insights that will support their practice and share innovations in their chosen fields. The new SPGs and SPG Co-chairs are:

  • Infectious Disease and HIV.
    • Jason Farley, PhD, MPH, ANP-BC, AACRN, FAAN, FAANP.
    • Jeffrey Kwong, DNP, MPH, ANP-BC, FAANP, FAAN.
  • Oncology.
    • Katie Kemble, DNP, ARNP, FNP-C, AOCNP, FAANP.
    • Kristi Adams Acker, DNP, PhD, FNP-BC, AOCNP, ACHPN, FAANP.
  • Ophthalmology.
    • Tulay Cakiner-Equlmez, ANP, PhD, MSN, CRNO, COMT.
    • Rolly Coronica, DNP, FNP.
  • Otolaryngology.
    • Maria Colandrea, DNP, RN, NP-C, CORLN, FAANP.
    • Rolly Coronica, DNP, FNP.
  • Wound Care.
    • Holly Jean Kirkland-Kyhn, PhD, FNP, GNP, CWCN, FAANP.
    • Kara Couch, MS, CRNP, CWCN-AP, FAAWC.

“Within each AANP Community, NPs gain perspective and a support system that is truly invaluable,” said April. N. Kapu, DNP, APRN, ACNP-BC, FAANP, FCCM, FAAN, president of AANP. “Just as NPs need communities to serve, we also thrive in interactive, supportive environments like SPGs and SIGs. We’re excited to expand the AANP Communities offered, and we thank the new Co-chairs for accepting these volunteer leadership roles.”

As of May 31, a total of 22,371 AANP members are actively engaged in AANP Communities. The most popular SIG — Entrepreneur — and four SPGs — Psych/Mental Health, Acute Care, Cardiology and Emergency — boast a combined total of 11,075 active users, providing robust conversations and lasting connections for AANP members nationwide.
