Get Ready for the 2026 National NP Week Celebration

26 NP Week

Learn more about this entire week dedicated to nurse practitioners before it arrives on Nov. 8-14.

This year, National NP Week takes place Nov. 8-14, and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) will be taking part in this nationwide movement to recognize nurse practitioners (NPs) for their powerful work caring for their communities all across the country. Read on to learn more about NP Week resources available from AANP — and about one big in-person event happening in New York City on Nov. 10!

Filling the Map… Again!

In addition to celebrating 40 years of AANP, 2025 also marked the first time every state and territory in the United States submitted a NP Week proclamation signed by an elected official. In the months, weeks and days leading up to NP Week, AANP State Liaisons and NP Organization members worked diligently to secure NP Week proclamations signed by elected officials recognizing the outstanding care NPs provide to patients in each state. Once again this year, AANP is asking all NPs to request their government to sign a 2026 NP Week Proclamation… except for Delaware, who for the second year in a row have procured their NP Week Proclamation before anyone else, and months early (they don’t call Delaware “The First State” for nothing)!

To learn more about how to download an NP Week Proclamation and to get it signed by a government official, view the newly released NP Week resource page. On this site, AANP has created an NP Week Proclamation Map so that NPs can watch as their states and territories gradually fill up with proclamations officially recognizing the whole-patient health care NPs provide.

Getting Involved in NP Week Festivities

Are you wondering how you can get involved in spreading the word about NPs and NP Week? You can take part in this year’s celebration by following AANP online and then sharing the latest NP Week announcements; sharing your NP story through social media or AANP; submitting an editorial through traditional media like a magazine or website; and joining up with hundreds of NPs in New York City on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the taping of the Today Show at the Today Show plaza.

The best and easiest way to keep current about NP Week activities is to follow AANP on social media, where AANP will be posting infographics about the NP role; sharing videos from AANP President Valerie Fuller, PhD, DNP, about NP Week festivities; and sharing YOUR photos on NP Spirit Day on Nov. 12. Make sure to use the hashtags #NPWeek and #NPsLead when you post about NP Week online so we may include your photos and posts in the celebration!

NP Week is also an excellent time to share your NP story with AANP! NPs have shared more than 100 stories expressing their personal reasons for becoming NPs over the two years since AANP began requesting submissions.

Another way to spread excitement around NP Week is to reach out to your favorite magazine or website and ask if they accept guest editorials. While pitching to any publication is recommended, consider a local publication as well. Stories about your work in your community are sure to resonate with your neighbors, friends and colleagues who have seen the difference you make in patients’ lives, and having your perspective published locally is one of the best ways to reach your community (especially if they don’t use social media).

Join Your Fellow NPs in NYC!

Finally, NPs will once again gather early on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Today Plaza in New York City, to meet up with other NPs, get loud and celebrate the NP role. If you’re able to attend, please RSVP here and make sure you bring a valid photo ID, wear a white coat and carry your best NP-themed poster to the event.

Visit the NP Week website leading up to November for more updates, and we will see many of you in New York!
