Important Change Regarding the Certification Renewal Process

Media Contact: Bryan Black

Learn about changes made to the nurse practitioner certification renewal process and find out how you can retrieve past continuing education documentation.

The American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) would like to share an important update regarding certification renewal with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB). The American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) is a completely separate organization from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), but we know it’s important to ensure you have updated information that could affect your practice. While AANP provides tools to support your continuing education (CE) tracking, AANPCB establishes and manages certification and renewal requirements.

Recently, the AANPCB updated their renewal process. As part of this change:

  • CE credits are no longer required to be logged or uploaded during the renewal application on the aanpcert.org website.
  • The CE Log feature was removed from the AANPCB website, along with any user-submitted information previously stored there.
  • Applicants will now attest to the completion of required CE credit during their certification period and must retain documentation in the event of a random audit.

In response to this change, AANP contacted the AANPCB to confirm whether historical CE Log data remains accessible. If you need to retrieve past CE documentation, you may contact AANPCB directly using the information below:

Please note that the AANP CE Tracker remains fully functional and continues to serve as a reliable, centralized tool for members to log and manage CE records. Through the CE Tracker, AANP members may:

  • Automatically store CE credits earned through AANP CE Center activities and AANP-hosted conferences.
  • Upload and track third-party CE credits.
  • Securely maintain CE records for at least seven years.

To access your AANP CE Tracker, please visit aanp.org and select “My CE” in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. The tracker can be shared with AANPCB with the click of a button.

AANP remains committed to supporting nurse practitioners and providing tools to help you maintain accurate and accessible CE documentation. Thank you for your continued dedication to excellence in practice and lifelong learning.
