Mary Wakefield, PhD, RN, FAAN, has accepted AANP’s invitation to speak at the 2019 AANP Health Policy Conference. Dr. Wakefield is the former acting deputy secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is the former administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
Throughout her career, Dr. Wakefield has worked to improve access to health care for underserved populations, from rural to global health.
Under her leadership, HRSA took steps to increase and diversify the health care workforce, build up a home visiting program to bring health workers to vulnerable mothers and children and further spread the use of telemedicine in rural areas. She was the first nurse to lead that division.
On Monday, February 4, 2019, Dr. Wakefield will speak to conference attendees on The Importance of NPs in Primary Care.
