Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) Final Rule

Government Affairs Newsfeed

On December 31, 2018, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) final rule for accountable care organizations (ACOs). CMS created a fact sheet highlighting major components of the final rule, and AANP’s comments on the proposed rule can be found on the AANP federal regulations webpage.

As a reminder, in the 2019 Medicare Fee Schedule final rule, CMS finalized a provision that authorizes an NP’s patient to “voluntarily align” with an ACO by selecting an NP in the ACO as their primary care provider, and the patient will be assigned to the ACO without requiring a primary care service from a physician.

Learn more about the regulatory process, including the proposed rule, AANP’s submitted comments to that proposal and, where applicable, the final rule and AANP’s accomplishments in accordance with the agency's final regulation.
