AUSTIN, TEXAS — The American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) has opened nominations for its prestigious State Award for Excellence. Presented annually to nurse practitioners (NPs) and those who advocate for NPs and their patients, one NP and one advocate from each state, district or territory will be honored at the 2023 AANP National Conference in New Orleans next June.
Established in 1991 to recognize outstanding clinical quality, the NP State Award for Excellence was presented to 52 remarkable individuals in 2022. NPs considered for these awards provide lifesaving care to patients in their communities throughout the year.
Fifty-one Advocate State Award for Excellence recipients were honored in 2022 for their tireless advocacy on behalf of patients and NPs. Established in 1993, the 2023 advocate award celebrates 30 years of work to increase patients’ access to high-quality health care and to advance the NP role. Examples of past advocate award recipients are physicians, legislators and educators. NPs are also eligible for the advocate award for non-clinical practice initiatives related to leadership, precepting, policy, politics, research, education or community affairs.
AANP members are encouraged to nominate a deserving NP or advocate from their state, district or territory to help AANP increase awareness of the vital role NPs play in ensuring patients across the nation have access to the highest quality care and to recognize those who are working to improve health care delivery. Nominees for these awards are not required to be AANP members and cannot be current AANP elected leaders. To be considered, nominations must be submitted electronically through the official 2023 AANP State Award nomination form no later than Sept. 9, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. ET (10:59 p.m. CT).
