AUSTIN, TEXAS — The American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) has opened nominations for its prestigious State Award for Outstanding Contributions. Presented annually to one deserving individual per state, this award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence that supports the nurse practitioner (NP) role in the areas of practice, education, advocacy, research and leadership (PEARL). Recipients will be honored at the 2025 AANP National Conference in San Diego, California, next June.

“AANP is proud to recognize the exceptional contributions of nurse practitioners and their advocates through the State Awards for Outstanding Contributions,” said AANP President Stephen A. Ferrara, DNP. “These awards celebrate the dedication, innovation and leadership that advance the NP profession and improve patient care across the nation. We encourage our members to nominate deserving individuals who have significantly impacted their patients and communities, helping to shape the future of health care.”

Founded in 1991, the State Awards for Excellence was established to recognize the extraordinary contributions of NPs. This annual recognition has honored deserving recipients who demonstrated excellence in clinical practice and have advanced the image, profile and visibility of NPs. In 1993, AANP created the Advocate State Award for Excellence to honor those who led efforts to advance legislation that has positively impacted NP practice and increased awareness and recognition of NPs.

In 2024, the AANP Awards program was once again reimagined and renamed the AANP State Awards for Outstanding Contributions. This is an annual award given to one deserving individual per state based on outlined criterion.

AANP members are encouraged to nominate an individual before the Oct. 15 deadline, and self-nominations are welcomed. Membership is required to submit a nomination; however, nominees for these awards are not required to be AANP members, and nominees cannot be current AANP elected leaders.

Individuals in these positions will receive public recognition and be presented with a certificate but will not receive additional items. If an awardee is a government employee and inadvertently receives an offer from AANP that includes additional benefits as part of an award, please alert staff immediately.
