AUSTIN, TEXAS — During Maine’s 131st Legislative Session, Falmouth nurse practitioner (NP) and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) President-Elect, Valerie Fuller, PhD, DNP, AGACNP-BC, FNP-BC, FNAP, FAANP, served as Medical Provider of the Day at the State House. A volunteer program providing medical assistance in the State Legislature in the event of an emergency, the Medical Provider of the Day program recognizes NPs and other health care providers who deliver high-quality patient care throughout the state. The program is operated with the cooperation and support of a number of organizations, including the Maine Medical Association, the Maine Nurse Practitioner Association, the Maine Osteopathic Association and the Maine Association of Physician Assistants.
“It was an honor to represent the more than 3,600 NPs in Maine and the more than 385,000 NPs across the U.S. who provide more than 1 billion patient visits annually. NPs provide high-quality, cost-effective and patient-centered health care services to patients across the lifespan. Thank you to the Maine State Legislature for recognizing the important role that NPs play in the care of all Maine citizens.”
The first-ever NP to serve in the Medical Provider of the Day program, Dr. Fuller practices in the Department of Surgery at Maine Medical Center in Portland and is the advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) member and Chair of the Maine State Board of Nursing. On June 29, Dr. Fuller will begin her term of office — alongside all other individuals elected in 2024 — at the conclusion of the closing general session at the 2024 AANP National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. If you are attending the conference, please join AANP and your fellow NPs in congratulating Dr. Fuller for this achievement.
