The AANP CE Center offers a wide variety of continuing education (CE) activities for nurse practitioners (NPs). Members of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) get more, including access to many free activities and significantly discounted rates on others. The activities are updated frequently, and more than a dozen pediatric-related options are currently available.
Find evidence-based articles, up-to-date guidelines and other resources about pediatrics at this resource center, brought to you by the Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (JAANP).
Learn how just three minutes of meaningful dialogue can strengthen trust, improve outcomes and support patient-centered care. Empower your patients to make informed, evidence-based choices through shared decision-making (SDM). This infographic highlights key SDM principles such as choice awareness, values clarification and partnership building — and provides practical communication models like the Three-Talk Model, Ask-Tell-Ask and the 5A’s Framework.
This quick-reference tool supports NPs in selecting accurate ICD-10-CM codes for serum-specific IgE laboratory tests. Emphasizing precise documentation, code specificity, and careful use of exclusion notes, this quick reference helps reduce payer denials and ensures appropriate reimbursement. This resource empowers NPs to deliver evidence-based allergy care while protecting practice efficiency and financial sustainability.
This informative handout for the NP has been developed to facilitate conversations about human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination with patients and their families. It provides an overview of the types of cancers that HPV can cause and discusses the rationale for why the vaccination should be administered during childhood for optimal protection. This handout displays the HPV vaccination schedule and also addresses some common questions and concerns that families may have about HPV vaccination.
This educational tool on food allergies, developed by AANP and supported by Genentech, outlines current best practices for managing IgE-mediated food allergies. It emphasizes a proactive approach centered on early allergen introduction during infancy, which has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of allergy development — especially for peanuts and eggs. The tool reviews evidence from major studies (LEAP and EAT); recommends age-based introduction strategies for low- and high-risk infants; and highlights the importance of regular allergen consumption to maintain tolerance. It also details FDA-approved therapies such as oral immunotherapy (PTAH) and the monoclonal antibody omalizumab; explains how to recognize and respond to allergic reactions including anaphylaxis; and offers practical guidance for patient counseling, epinephrine uses and emergency preparedness.
This clinical tool supports NPs in promoting vaccinations through a team-based approach across all stages of the patient visit. It offers practical strategies for integrating vaccine discussions into workflow, addressing hesitancy and reinforcing strong recommendations. By engaging the full care team, NPs can help create a consistent, pro-vaccine message that improves patient uptake.
Every person living with diabetes and also at risk of hypoglycemia needs to have a plan in place to manage the condition when it occurs. This practical and informational handout will facilitate conversations about hypoglycemia planning between the NP and the patients with diabetes for whom they provide care. The checklist format enables patients to easily keep track of things like the expiration date of and where they store their glucagon; the availability of fast-acting carbohydrate treatments, etc.; and the ability to share this information with their friends and family.
The Pediatrics Specialty Practice Group (SPG) offers a unique opportunity to interactively collaborate with colleagues who share an interest or clinical expertise in pediatrics. As an SPG member, you’ll have access to a cutting-edge, online forum where you can engage in discussions, document sharing and knowledge exchange with fellow NPs. Come learn, share and help progress the development of theory and practice in pediatrics.
