NP Research Agenda

In 2016, the AANP Board of Directors voted to create a research committee to guide NP research initiatives, support dissemination of NP-focused research, and regularly update and implement the AANP research agenda. In the fall of 2020, the AANP Research Committee began a systematic process to develop a refreshed agenda.

Subgroups of the Research Committee reviewed literature on NP practice, education, advocacy, research, and leadership. Next, they developed summary statements for each category, identified topics needing further research, and sought input on those topics from stakeholders internal and external to AANP, including contributors to previous AANP research agendas. The Research Committee then published the agenda in the Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
