AANP Executive Leadership Program

Applications for the 2024 American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) Executive Leadership Program Are Now Closed!


Equipping the Next Generation of Nurse Practitioner (NP) Leaders!

You are already an inspiration to your patients and a pillar in your community. Now it's time to take your leadership skills to the next level! In partnership with curriculum from The George Washington University (GWU) School of Nursing and offering approximately 50 contact hours of continuing education (CE) with in-person and online components, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) Executive Leadership Program includes two weeks of content and networking with top experts.

  • Week 1: April 8-12, 2024, presented in person at the GWU campus in Ashburn, Virginia.
  • Week 2: June 3-7, 2024, presented virtually.
  • Webinar: May 8, 2024.

The application period closed on Nov. 8, 2023, at 6 p.m. ET (5 p.m. CT).


Program Objectives

  1. Utilize the roles of leadership to assist participants in developing the mindset and presence of an executive leader.
  2. Demonstrate the skills of leading self, leading people, managing thinking and applying knowledge and experience.
  3. Plan and facilitate systematic change to improve patient and business outcomes at the organizational level.
  4. Apply knowledge of political advocacy in health care to advocate with congressional delegations on behalf of AANP.

Program Cost and Details

Participant Costs:

  • Nonrefundable $1,000 participant fee, due upon selection to the program.
  • All costs associated with travel and meals.

AANP Provides:

  • Hotel costs for five nights, not including incidentals.
  • A celebratory dinner in Ashburn, Virginia.

Participant Also Receives:

  • Relevant reading materials.
  • Thank you gift and certificate of completion.

Eligibility

  • Must be an AANP member with at least one year of continuous membership since Oct. 1, 2022.
  • Must have completed the prerequisite 12-module AANP Introductory Certificate on Leadership course on or before 11:59 p.m. CT on Nov. 6, 2023. For this prerequisite course to be considered complete, applicants must complete each individual module, submit the required evaluation and have a certificate generated.
  • Must have at least one year’s experience as a practicing NP.
  • Cannot be an AANP staff member.
  • Cannot be a current or past board member or elected official of AANP, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or the American College of Nurse Practitioners.

Supporting Documents

  • Current CV or resume that adheres to the provided template.
  • Two current, professional letters of reference must be provided, written on the referrer’s letterhead and signed. One reference must be your current supervisor, whose reference letter must address the following:
    • Identify how long they have known the applicant.
    • Speak to the applicant’s leadership potential and provide examples.
    • Confirm their understanding and support of the time commitments required by the program.
