This community is a networking space for nurse practitioners (NPs) working in a variety of local, state, federal, tribal and territorial agencies such as the Defense Health Agency, Veteran’s Affairs (VA), uniformed services, Indian health services and correctional environments. The community is led by two co-chairs, Mathew R. Loe, DNP, RN, ERNP, FNP-C, NE-BC, FAANP, and Michelle Peacock, MSN, FNP-BC. A Message From the Interagency Government SIG Co-chairs

Mathew R. Loe, DNP, RN, ERNP, FNP-C, NE-BC, FAANP
Mathew R. Loe, DNP, RN, ERNP, FNP-C, NE-BC, FAANP

Captain (Capt.) Loe completed the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Texas Tech Health Science Center with honors and is an expert clinician and operational leader. While deployed to Afghanistan, he advised a regional Afghan National Army Surgeon General supporting one-fifth of the country. Capt. Loe influenced practice and policy development that was applied directly to combat and humanitarian operations and was the first NP to serve as chairman of the Naval Hospital Pensacola Disease Management Committee, influencing provider care delivery and policy. While assigned to the U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine, Capt. Loe influenced global practice and medical readiness policy. The first NP assigned to Aegis Ashore Poland, he influenced operations for two commanding officers as key advisor and provider for U.S. Navy health care operations in the county. Currently assigned to the Naval Medicine and Readiness Command Beaufort as director of branch clinics, Capt. Loe also serves as the chair of the Department of Defense Uniformed Family Nurse Practitioner Council.

Michelle Peacock, MSN, FNP-BC
Michelle Peacock, MSN, FNP-BC

Michelle Peacock is an accomplished family NP who has made significant contributions to the health care industry. She is currently the clinical nurse advisor and health executive committee liaison for the Clinical Care Business Line at the Veterans Health Administration Office of VA/Department of Defense Health Affairs. Previously, she has held acting positions as the interim chief of primary care at the Lexington Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington, KY, and acting association chief of staff for ambulatory care at the New Mexico VA Health Care System in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 2019, as the nurse practitioner supervisor, she helped implement full practice authority and set the standards for advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) in New Mexico.

In recognition of her outstanding work, Michelle was awarded the American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) State Award for Excellence in 2023 and the AANP State Award for Advocacy in 2018. She has also been recognized as Albuquerque Business First's Woman of Influence in 2018 and as one of Albuquerque Business Weekly's Top 40 Young Professionals under 40 in 2016. Michelle was honored at the White House as a Champion of Change for Women Veterans in 2013.

Michelle is the past president of the New Mexico Nurse Practitioner Council and is a member of the National Office of Nursing Service (ONS) Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Council for the Veterans Health Administration. She is a subject matter expert on productivity and workload management for APRNs. She is the ONS field Advisor for Primary care. She actively works with legislators and local community members to educate them on veteran health initiatives policies and advocates for health care providers. She educates leaders regarding homelessness and its far-reaching effects, including health and educational disparities and the rise of violence and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Michelle is also involved in several local boards addressing childhood homelessness and driving under the influence. She is pursuing a Ph.D. in health policy at the University of New Mexico College of Nursing.

Michelle is married to Greg Peacock and has two children, Annabelle (10) and Elliot (8), known as the mini-Peacocks. They enjoy traveling, hiking and trying new adventures as a family.
