Smoking Cessation

Advice From Nurse Practitioners (NPs)

The American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) has partnered with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the 2020 Tips From Former Smokers® (Tips®) Campaign. In this video, featuring AANP Fellow and pediatric nurse practitioner Laura Searcy, MN, APRN, PPCNP-BC, FAANP, you can get the tips you need to help patients 18 years of age and younger stop smoking.

Smoking cessation starts with addressing the root cause, says AANP Fellow Dr. Susan J. Corbridge, who educates patients about the serious illnesses associated with smoking and helps them quit. Gain insights from Dr. Corbridge, including preventive measures and several "D"s patients can use to avoid smoking.

Audrey Darville, PhD, APRN, CTTS, FAANP shares about her experience with the Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training program and discusses her approach to smoking cessation, her work with tobacco treatment at a policy level and how the COVID-19 pandemic has influenced delivery of care for patients who want to quit smoking.
